Last Saturday I attended the workshop COM‘ ON! — Die alte Eigentumswelt dreht sich, see commons.rosalux.de for the homepage.

The workshop has been organized by the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung which is the foundation of the party „Die Linke“ in Germany. „Die Linke“ is the socialist party in Germany. As far as I understood the Keimform people co-organized this event.

The workshop has been attended by about 40 persons. At least 8 of them were on the Oekonux list at some point. It was very nice to meet all these people again — some of them I had not met since years.

Auf diesem Schild bin ich das erste mal dem vom üblichen „Commons Based Peer Production“ abweichenden Begriff „Commons Based queer Production“ begegnet. Ich bat die Schildermaler_innen um eine Erläuterung. Here we go:

Mit dem Begriff “commons based queer production” beziehen wir uns auf die bei oekonux, keimform und anderen ausgearbeiteten Konzepte einer neuen kommunistischen Produktionsweise jenseits von Staat und Markt. Die Idee wurde angesichts tatsächlicher Produktionen im Bereich freier Software entwickelt, die auf offenen Codes und freiwilligen Beiträgen beruhen. Die “peers” kommunizieren untereinander über die zu erledigenden Aufgaben und Ziele, wie auch über die Mittel zu ihrer Erreichung. Die erstellten Produkte können frei zirkulieren (können frei heruntergeladen und kopiert werden), werden also nicht warenförmig. (mehr …)

Vom 9. bis 12. Vom 22. bis zum 30. Juni 2012 an luxuriösen acht Tagen findet im Kulturhof Bechstedt in Thüringen die erste Commons-Sommerschule statt. Sie richtet sich an Aktivistinnen und Aktivisten aus der Commons-Bewegung und solche, die es werden wollen. Ein erstes Programm gibt es auch schon.

Das Vorbereitungsteam hat eine Förderung durch Wikimedia-Foundation Deutschland e.V. beantragt und sich um den Publikumspreis beworben. Wer die Commons-Sommerschule unterstützen möchte, kann für das Projekt 24 eine Stimme abgeben. [via]

The new book Life Without Money; Building Fair and Sustainable Economies (co-edited by Anitra Nelson and Frans Timmerman) has just been released. The ten contributors to Life Without Money argue that we need to dispense with monetary values and relationships — yes, money per se — in order to manage our world on the basis of humane and natural values.

The book brings together diverse voices with strong arguments against our money-based system’s ability to improve lives and prevent environmental disaster. It provides a strategy for undercutting capitalism by refusing to deal in money, and offers money-free models of governance and collective sufficiency. Life Without Money is written by high-profile activist scholars, including Harry Cleaver, Ariel Salleh and John O’Neill, and is an inspiring manifesto for those who want to take action.

However, the book cannot be obtained »without money«, it has to be purchased in a bookstore. And the website indicates, that strict copyright applies. Creative Commons licenses are not used, which contradicts the aim of the book.
