Ich geb Dir 100 Millionen Dollar! Wer kann dazu schon Nein sagen? Wikipedia kann. Sie sind inzwischen eine Webseite, die Millionen und Abermillionen mit Werbung machen könnte. Sie tun es nicht, obwohl sie längst in einer Liga mit den großen dot-coms angekommen sind. Die Gründe beschreibt Erik Möller sehr gut in einem Blogbeitrag [1] zum aktuellen Fundraiser:
„Above all, our reliance on support by the public also means equity: Your donation [2] is an explicit decision to support us. But if you feel we are going down the wrong path, you can also choose not to donate.“
und vor allem:
„…it is almost certain that a large number of people would stop authoring content if Wikipedia started to run ads.“
Mit anderen Worten: Es ist rational, die Werbeeinnahmen nicht zu nehmen. Es ist rational der Verwertungslogik zu entsagen. So sehen Keimformen aus!
